South Australia’s new industry-leading public sector data sharing legislation clears the way for a raft of new intelligent services and policy insights. Building trust in the information and data that drive these services and policy design empowers agencies looking to build the next generation of services and products.

As services are joined up and data matching and exchange becomes more prevalent, ensuring the integrity of agency data is critical. Properly formatted and curated, data and information become the “secret sauce” that enable agencies to offer rich digital channels to intelligently service and engage with citizens.

Equally, an agency confident in its information practices can be much more ambitious about their data interactions, developing more intelligent services and smart open data applications.

But for all the talk of joined up services, citizen centric service design and data driven government, the reality for most public service senior executives is that there’s substantial heavy lifting required when it comes to addressing new and potent risks around security, access control and ensuring that often sensitive information has the necessary governance.

  • Are new and existing platforms ‘match-fit’ for secure collaboration and controlled sharing … or are they an internet enabled accident waiting to happen thanks to ‘shadow IT’?
  • What happens to the ‘single source of truth’ and knowing who accessed what information and where?
  • How do you strike the balance between making digital information and data instantly accessible yet compatible with increasingly strict governance and compliance obligations?
  • How do agencies confidently use new data sharing legislation to build next generation of services?

Information governance provides an accountability framework for creating, valuing, using and managing data. Good governance empowers agencies to be collaborative, mobile and transparent, while ensuring information accuracy, reliability and security are not compromised.

To help South Australian public sector leaders navigate these challenges, The Mandarin is holding an executive learning seminar to discuss these contemporary challenges and workshop solutions from leading South Australian government and industry stakeholders.
