Indigenous Procurement Policy

Senator says businesses that had government grants were obstructed from accessing departments that could potentially use the new technology.

The UK parliament approved the deal on Friday, announcing royal assent had been given to the legislation signing off on the Australia-UK FTA.

The Western Australian government has updated its landmark Aboriginal Procurement Policy, with increased targets for contracts awarded to Aboriginal businesses.

NIAA say that from July 2020, the Indigenous Procurement Policy’s minimum mandatory requirements for Indigenous participation would be expanded to include 11 extra industry sectors, bringing the total to 19.

Departments have failed to comply with targets set out by the Commonwealth’s Indigenous Procurement Policy, the Australian National Audit Office has found.

The Federal government’s Indigenous Procurement Policy has been beneficial to the Indigenous business sector, but there is still work to be done to smooth out the bumps, an independent evaluation has found.

The Indigenous Procurement Strategy, released this week, has been developed in response to a recommendation from the Commonwealth government’s Indigenous Procurement Policy, and will be controlled by the department’s chief finance officer. 

The Australian Public Service smashed a modest target to increase government spending with Indigenous-owned suppliers, so the minister has brought forward the 2020 target and called on the states and territories to follow suit.
