The reforms would add these sectors to the definition of ‘critical infrastructure’: banking, finance, communications, data, the Cloud, defence industry, education, research, innovation, energy, food, grocery, health, space, transport, and water.

The strategy encourages collaboration across agencies, jurisdictions, and nations.

The Prime Minister said the funds would be directed to the Australian Signals Directorate and the Australian Cyber Security Centre, with more than 500 new jobs created within the ASD.

The federal government has appointed Kirstjen Nielsen to provide advice on Australia’s cyber security strategy, set to be released this year.
