June Oscar promotes path to better First Nations consultation

June Oscar has already chalked up more wins for her community than most people can achieve in a lifetime.

But the outgoing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social justice commissioner says she’s just getting started.

In recent years, Oscar’s work has focused on First Nations gender justice — something she will be taking forward with her into her new role at the Australian National University (ANU).

Speaking at the National Press Club on Wednesday, Oscar said casting a gender lens over Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy highlights both the failings and the potential solutions to one of Australia’s most lingering problems.
