Representatives of the ACT Labor, the Canberra Liberals, and electoral bodies in the ACT and New Zealand are set to appear before a committee inquiry in the Victorian Parliament about how elections are conducted in other jurisdictions next week.

The 2022 Victorian state election inquiry hearings will resume on Monday, February 5, from 2-3pm.

Victoria’s Legislative Assembly agreed to establish the inquiry last March, with terms of reference to look into the conduct of the 2022 state election.

The inquiry has already heard from the Victorian Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately and minor party representatives from the Angry Victorians last year.

Inquiry chair Luba Grigorovitch said next week’s witnesses would help the committee consider stakeholder suggestions for Victoria, and whether there’s a need for changes in the state’s electoral processes.

“The inquiry is looking at a broad range of topics, from enrolment to candidature, campaigning behaviour and the voting process,” she said.

A total of 110 submissions have been received by the committee, which is also running a survey of voters with disabilities to learn about their experience at the election, what went well and what could be improved.

The survey asks questions such as how and where people cast their votes; whether they thought the experience was ‘very bad’, ‘bad’, ‘okay’, ‘good’, or ‘very good’; and what their voting support needs are.

“The [disability] survey can be done online or people can download an easy English version. The survey is open until 18 December 2023,” the inquiry website read.

A final report is due to be delivered to parliament by May 2024.
