Here we were this week, waiting with bated breath to hear more about the multiple Australian Public Service code-of-conduct inquiries resulting from the robodebt royal commission, not to mention the big one – the inquiry by former Public Service Commissioner Lynelle Briggs into suspended Home Affairs secretary Michael Pezzullo.

And lo, the current commissioner, Gordon de Brouwer, more or less told the senate finance and public administration committee on Tuesday to butt out — and the committee actually did so.
