According to new data released by Australia’s tropical marine research agency, the Great Barrier Reef has enjoyed a 12-month period of recovery and resilience. But researchers are warning the health of the world’s largest ecosystem is hanging in a delicate balance, with government and policymakers being urged to take the sensitivity of the Reef seriously.

Scientists from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) have reported the highest coral cover for central and northern parts of the Great Barrier Reef in 36 years of record-keeping.
