The New South Wales network of Technical and Further Education institutes will have a new leader in the new year.
Steffen Faurby has been appointed managing director of TAFE NSW for a term of five years.
He is currently CEO of the State Transit Authority of NSW, the only government bus company in the state. Prior to this, he was the CEO of Harbour City Ferries — a private company which runs Sydney Ferries on behalf of the state government.
Fauby said he was excited to commence his new role on January 13.
“TAFE NSW has a proud history and is of huge importance to local industries and economies. I am especially impressed by the range of courses on offer, particularly what is available in regional NSW,” he said. “I’m focused on how we can enhance this during my tenure so we can best meet the needs of more remote parts of the state.”
Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee thanked TAFE NSW acting managing director Kerry Penton for her leadership of the organisation over the past five months. She will return to the role of acting chief delivery officer in 2020.
Penton said she looked forward to working with Faurby to deliver on the NSW Government’s strategy for a strong and vibrant TAFE NSW.
“As a proud supporter of public education, I take great pride in being part of the leadership team which will continue to position TAFE NSW as an innovative, flexible and responsive provider of training that supports the diverse communities of our state.”
The organisation was previously headed by Dr Caralee McLiesh, who left her role earlier this year after being appointed as the next Secretary to Te Tai Ōhanga, the Treasury of New Zealand.
