New Zealand public service embroiled in war over words

New Zealand’s public servants knew there would be a shakeup after the election of Christopher Luxon as prime minister.

The New Zealand National Party leader sailed to victory in the election, partly on a platform of making funding cuts to the public service.

What people may not have anticipated was the extent to which Luxon’s racial politics would influence the way government business was done in New Zealand.

A longstanding agreement between the Public Service Association (PSA) government has encouraged the use of the Maori language in official business.
