A reduction in the national GST pool for NSW and federal infrastructure cuts has hit the state hard.

The state’s GST receipts have been forecast at $1.7 billion lower over the four years to 2026-27 but the NSW government has made it clear it expects any savings attached to the arrangement will be put back into the state.

Treasurer Daniel Moohkey released the NSW half-yearly review on Thursday, likening the task ahead for the government to the challenge every family in the state faced carefully managing household finances.
