Minns’ moaning on multiculturalism betrays Sydney’s basic cohesion

It’s hard to know what was going through New South Wales premier Chris Minns’ mind when he blurted out the $1 million-a-day price tag for the police presence to supervise protests over the war in Gaza, but one thing both sides will probably agree on was that it was insensitive and tone-deaf.

As the death toll and horrors continue to mount daily, communities traumatised by one of the most intractable conflicts of the last century continue to take to the streets in Sydney on weekends to democratically express their feelings and points of view and let their voice be heard.
