Artificial intelligence, or more specifically AI-powered programs such as ChatGPT, is having its moment.

Looking at Google Trends, interest in the term ChatGPT in Australia has increased since its launch in November 2022.

The AI chatbot has picked up significant media coverage, with articles on ChatGPT appearing in The Conversation, ABC, Sky News, and the AFR.

Australian newsrooms are using AI to write articles, and education departments across the country are banning the use of ChatGPT for fear of plagiarism.

AI is already being used within the public service.
