This election campaign has been almost surreal in its cartoonish dreadfulness, although the final leaders’ debate on Wednesday night did strike a more sensible note.
It will soon all be over, thankfully, but the business of government will continue to be run by the Australian Public Service until the new ministry is sworn in, the new Administrative Arrangements Order gazetted and the new parliament sits.
Then, among other things, will come the Parliamentary Budget Office’s election commitment report.
This report examines the budget impact of every election commitment for all the major parties (any party with five or more members of parliament), along with the costing responses; minor parties and independents can opt in.
