In the event of a Labor win in May, we’re unlikely to see exactly what it means for the Australian Public Service for quite some time. Possibly years.

The immediate implications have been well-traversed. No one will be surprised if Phil Gaetjens resigns the moment a Labor win becomes clear. Brendan Murphy will be lucky to survive a change of government after “it’s not a race” and being seen as far too close to the Morrison government. Kathryn ‘Robodebt’ Campbell surely can’t remain at DFAT, or anywhere, and doesn’t deserve to.
