New proof of vaccination app for WA

ServiceWA has launched a free mobile application to help transition the state for its new border settings.

The app allows users to check-in and access a certificate for interstate travel known as the G2G pass. It also shares important information such as how to prepare a household for a COVID-19 infection, locations for testing and vaccination, as well as exposure location sites.

Western Australian premier Mark McGowan said the app was an important part of his plan to safely transition the state. In the coming days, details about WA’s expanded proof of vaccination requirements are expected to be finalised.

“I encourage all Western Australians to download ServiceWA and familiarise themselves with its features,” McGowan said.

The premier added that the new app, which will eventually replace the existing SafeWA check in app, had been designed with convenience and security in mind. The app also used the federal government’s Digital Identity system to verify ID.

“Having the ServiceWA app means you won’t be opening multiple apps or carrying other forms of identification to enter certain venues and events – it’s all in one place,” he said. 

Some of the unique security features of the app include a live clock timer, shimmering coat of arms and animated certificate tick to show an authentic COVID-19 digital certificate.

Unlike other digital certificates stored in smartphone wallets or hardcopies, people who show proof of vaccination through the ServiceWA app will not need to show any additional identification to venues.

Health minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said that the new app would simplify check-ins and better help with other essential public health measures being introduced in WA. 

“The app has the capacity to accommodate additional COVID-related services in the future,” Sanderson said.

Transitioning from the SafeWA to the new app requires users to set up a Digital Identity and create an account to prove who they are online – a set up process that is estimated to take about 30 minutes to do at home. 

Once the account has been set up, the app is ready to go and will not need to have new information entered into it.

In a statement, vaccine commander Chris Dawson urged all Western Australians to get vaccinated to protect themselves and loved ones from COVID-19.

“With proof of vaccination, SafeWA and G2G pass all in the one place, the ServiceWA app will make it easier for people in WA to do the right thing to keep themselves and others safe,” Dawson said.
