Conditions of the global pandemic have changed many ordinary household behaviours — including what we eat. But Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL) says with 7.6 million tonnes of food wasted in Australia every year, policymakers must seize the opportunity of the pandemic to encourage more permanent changes.

As households in locked-down parts of the world adapted their menu-planning using more fresh produce for at-home meals, the shift in the way people have thought about consumption was leading to some positive changes in food waste.
