A government resource for homebuilders and renovators to improve the energy efficiency of houses is set for a new iteration.
The free resource, called Your Home, provides online and printed advice for people to design and build energy efficient homes.
The federal Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources has created a sixth edition of the guide, due to offer more information on batteries, solar photovoltaic, roof and wall insulation, cladding systems, lighting and appliances.
Architect-designed house plans and building specifications will also provide a starting point for people to build energy-efficient homes.
It also includes a focus on building in bushfire-prone areas, how to achieve ultra-low energy or ‘passive house’ standards, and advice on building using hemp masonry, and a number of case studies.
Energy and emissions reduction minister Angus Taylor said the resource would keep Australians up-to-date with how to reduce household energy bills and voluntarily improve their home’s sustainability.
“The government is focused on ensuring Australians spend as little as possible on their energy bills,” Taylor said.
The department has consulted building experts, industry professionals, scientific editors and graphic designers to produce the online resource and an updated 71-chapter reference book.
The resource is set to become available on the Your Home website on September 28.
