The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is on the hunt for a range of experts who can help improve market access for Australian producers.
The experts would form the department’s proposed Scientific and Technical Market Access Panel, according to a request for tender published this week.
DAWE deputy secretary Andrew Tongue said the department was seeking people with experience in technical market access, phytosanitary and sanitary issues, domestic and international biosecurity matters, operational assessments, and cooperation and capacity building projects to join the panel.
“We’re looking for people with scientific and technical market access expertise to boost the department’s capacity in accelerating negotiations of technical agreements with trading partners,” he said.
“By reaching out to the best and the brightest, we can speed up the department’s market access priorities. This will reduce the time it takes to negotiate new and improved market access for Australian producers.”
The department’s plan to speed up the negotiation of technical agreements by boosting scientific and technical capacity is a key aspect of the government’s Agribusiness Expansion Initiative, Tongue noted.
“By improving market access for producers, we can better support exports, building the agriculture sector’s ability to become a $100 billion industry by 2030,” he said.
Tenderers have until September 7 to apply.
