Two Melbourne-based organisations have this week been named as among Australia and New Zealand’s best places to work in government.
The Australian Financial Review and BOSS Magazine’s 2021 Best Places to Work List has ranked Nillumbik Shire Council third and Melbourne Water eighth in the Government, Education and Not-for-Profit category.
The Australian Council for Educational Research took the top spot in that category. Other workplaces to crack the top 10 included Maths Pathway, Korowa Anglican Girls’ School, Relationships Australia NSW, Royal Far West, GS1 Australia, St George Community Housing, and Achieve Australia.
Melbourne Water was recognised for its achievements in innovative work practices that drive flexibility, equality, diversity, inclusion wellbeing, learning and development, according to the organisation’s managing director, Michael Wandmaker.
“Everyone who works at Melbourne Water shares the same vision to deliver great outcomes for the environment and the community we serve,” he said in a statement.
“I’m proud that we have such a positive and inclusive workforce and that our employees feel supported.”
Based in Melbourne’s North East, Nillumbik Shire Council is Nillumbik’s biggest employer. Acting CEO Vince Lombardi said the council was honoured to be included in the list, and wanted to attract the best talent to best serve its community.
“We have an incredibly passionate, dedicated and collaborative team who are focused on making a real difference in the Nillumbik community,” he said in a statement.
“We have implemented a number of initiatives to support our staff, which has been particularly important over the past year during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The supports we put in place prior to the pandemic were integral to helping us pivot to a very different way of working during the pandemic, without missing a beat.”
To make it on the list, both organisations were assessed by behavioural science consultancy Inventium. The assessment was based on a staff survey and a written submission with questions on workplace practices, programs and policies.
