Both the Australian and the UK governments have institutionalised limitations that mean policy and procurement simply do not join up, and there are currently no structural or process bridges in place to even look at how that can be made to happen. As an Australian digital tech entrepreneur with a business that serves both UK and Australian markets, I am proud to have been appointed a member of the UK government’s Cabinet Office SME panel, advocating and supporting government in developing an innovative, competitive, diverse supplier marketplace and looking at ways for public procurement to better work with small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across every sector and every region.
