DPC Sydney office to undergo $3 million renovation

The NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet has awarded a contract estimated to be worth more than $3 million for office renovations.

INTREC Management has been engaged to conduct upgrades to the DPC office in Sydney. The estimated cost for the project is $3,048,455.60, according to 9News.

The DPC, Treasury and Ministry moved to the Martin Place building in 2014 to save money on rental costs and transition from a “very traditional static work environment to a modern agile workplace”.

INTREC has been contracted by many of the state’s departments in the past, including the Department of Education, the NSW State Library, and Service NSW.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian told 9News she had “no idea” about the renovations, which has angered groups who were denied funding in this year’s budget.

Secretary of the Health Services Union Gerard Hayes said the money could have been used to employ more security guards for the state’s hospitals, where there has been a growing trend of violence against health workers.

“We don’t want to be dramatic about this, but the fact of the matter is people have been killed at hospitals, people are seriously assaulted at hospitals,” he said.

“This sort of money could go a long way.”

Women’s Safety NSW CEO Hayley Foster said that amount of money would allow the domestic violence service to provide ongoing support to 5,000 women.

“We are seeing women hospitalised daily right across this country,” she said.

“I guess it’s a question of priorities. It hurts when you hear investment go in that direction when there’s screaming need for women and children who are literally in fear for their lives.

“But what we really want to see is the support that survivors need to recover. We need funding to actually make that happen.”

The renovations will be carried out between now and 30 June next year.
